RESUMO Introdução: A fissura labiopalatina é a anomalia craniofacial mais frequente e, como consequência dessa malformação, observa-se normalmente uma relação oclusal inadequada entre as arcadas. Além disso, nesse pacientes também podem ser observadas ausências dentárias, alterações de posicionamento individual dos dentes, como rotações e, em situações mais raras, as transposições também podem ser encontradas. Descrição: Neste contexto, é relatado neste artigo o caso clínico de um paciente de 9 anos de idade com fissura labial e palatina unilateral, com mordida cruzada anterior e posterior no lado esquerdo, agenesia do incisivo lateral superior esquerdo e transposição do canino com o primeiro pré-molar superior esquerdos. O paciente foi tratado por meio de expansão maxilar lenta, enxerto ósseo secundário e aparelho ortodôntico fixo, aceitando-se a transposição e fechando o espaço da agenesia do incisivo lateral com o primeiro pré-molar posicionado nesse espaço, seguido de mesialização dos dentes posteriores. Resultados: Ao fim do tratamento, obteve-se boa intercuspidação e importante ganho estético para o paciente. A análise três anos após o tratamento revelou uma boa estabilidade dos resultados obtidos.

ABSTRACT Introduction: The cleft lip and palate is the most frequent craniofacial anomaly and as a consequence of this malformation some inadequate occlusal relationship between the arches are observed. Furthermore, dental absences, individual positioning changes of teeth as rotations, and in more rare situations the transpositions may be found as well. Description: In this context, in this article is reported a case of a 9-year-old patient with unilateral cleft lip and palate, with anterior and posterior crossbite on the left side, absence of the maxillary left lateral incisor, and transposition of the maxillary left canine and first premolar. The patient was treated with slow maxillary expansion, secondary graft and fixed orthodontic appliance, transposition maintenance and closing of the lateral incisor space with the first premolar, by means of mesialization of the posterior teeth. Results: At the end of the treatment, good intercuspation and an important aesthetic gain for the patient were achieved. The analysis three years after treatment revealed a good stability of the results obtained.

Resumo Introdução Não há consenso sobre os efeitos imediatos e tardios da protração maxilar em pacientes com fissura lábio palatal. Objetivo avaliar a estabilidade do tratamento precoce da Classe III em pacientes com fissura labiopalatina por meio da expansão e protração maxilar. Material e método A amostra consistiu de 28 pacientes com fissura lábio palatal com (média de idade pré tratamento de 6.7±1.8) com fissura lábio palatal transforame unilateral, tratados com disjuntor maxilar e com máscara facial de Petit. Por meio de análise em telerradiografias laterais as grandezas angulares (SNA, SNB, ANB, SN.GoGn, FMA, Ângulo Z) e lineares (overjet, Co-A, Co-Gn, Nperp-A, Nperp-Pg, AO-BO) foram avaliadas, com o software Dolphin®, nos tempos: inicial (T0), após o tratamento (T1) e acompanhamento de 2 a 6 anos (T2). Os dados foram submetidos à ANOVA e teste Tukey-Kramer. A correlação entre as grandezas cefalométricas e a idade do paciente foi determinada pelo teste de Pearson. Todas as análises foram realizadas com nível de significância de 5%. Resultado SNA, ANB e AO-BO aumentaram significativamente (p<0,05) e após o período de acompanhamento voltaram a ser semelhantes às iniciais (p>0,05). O overjet aumentou significativamente após o tratamento e mesmo tendo diminuído com o tempo, ainda se apresentava maior quando comparado ao momento inicial (p<0,05). O ângulo Z apresentou melhora com o tratamento e se manteve estável no período de acompanhamento (p<0,05). Conclusão após o tratamento (disjunção associada à protração maxilar) houve melhora do padrão esquelético. No período de acompanhamento, verificou-se que essas melhoras voltaram a medidas próximas das iniciais. Houve melhora no padrão dentário e no perfil facial que se manteve no período de controle.

Abstract Introduction There is no consensus about the immediate and latte follow-up effects of maxillary protraction in cleft lip and palate patients. Objective To evaluate the stability of Class III early treatment in cleft lip and palate patients through maxillary expansion and protraction. Material and method The sample consists in three lateral cephalometric radiographs of 28 patients (mean pre-treatment age of 6.7±1.8 years) who presented cleft lip and palate and were treated with maxillary expansion and Petit facial mask. The angular (SNA, SNB, ANB, SN.GoGn, FMA, Z Angle) and linear (overjet, Co-A, Co-Gn, Nperp-A, Nperp-Pg, AO-BO) cephalometric measures were evaluated through the Dolphin® software, in three moments: T0 (initial), T1 (after treatment), and T2 (follow-up). Data were submitted to the analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey-Kramer test. The correlation between cephalometric measures and patient’s age was determined by Pearson’s chi-squared test. Result The SNA, ANB, and AO-BO measures increased considerably (p<0.05), and they did not present any differences compared to the initial ones after the follow-up time. The overjet measure increased (p<0.05) after treatment and, even with its decrease at the follow-up time, it was still higher than at the beginning (p<0.05). The Z angle showed improvement with treatment and remained stable at the follow-up time. Conclusion After treatment (maxillary expansion associated with protraction), there was a skeletal pattern improvement. During the follow-up period, those alterations decreased to a measure close to the beginning. There was an improvement in the dental pattern and facial profile that continued in the follow-up period.

RESUMO: A resposta de parâmetros bioquímicos e hematológicos foram analisadas no dentão (Lutjanus jocu) cultivados em tanque-rede, bem como os exemplares mantidos em laboratório durante a infestação por Neobenedenia melleni e após o tratamento com banho de água doce e aplicação injetável de levamisol. Foram observadas alterações significativas nos indivíduos parasitados por N. melleni, caracterizado pelo aumento dos níveis de glicose e lactato, bem como significativa redução em hematócrito e aumento em leucócito dos peixes. O tratamento com banhos de água doce, concomitante à aplicação injetável de levamisol, evidenciou eficácia terapêutica em diversos parâmetros após 14 dias de tratamento.

ABSTRACT: The response of biochemical and hematological parameters were analyzed in dog snapper (Lutjanus jocu) grown in net cages, as well as for the specimens kept in the laboratory during an infestation by Neobenedenia melleni, and after treatment with freshwater bath and injectable application of levamisole. Significant changes were observed in N. melleni parasitized individuals, characterized by increased glucose and lactate levels, as well as a significant fish hematocrit reduction and leukocyte increase. Treatment with freshwater baths, concomitant with injectable levamisole application, showed therapeutic efficacy in several parameters after 14 days of treatment.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito da temperatura e da taxa de alimentação sobre o crescimento e a produtividade de juvenis de robalo-peva (Centropomus parallelus). Utilizou-se experimento fatorial com duas temperaturas (25 e 28º C) e duas taxas de alimentação (3 e 6% da biomassa ao dia), com três repetições para cada combinação de temperatura e taxa. Os peixes (9,80±0,41 g; 9,86±0,14 cm) foram alimentados duas vezes ao dia durante 60 dias. A cada 15 dias, foram realizadas amostragens para corrigir a quantidade de ração oferecida. Não houve mortalidade durante o experimento. Maior crescimento em peso e comprimento foi obtido nos animais submetidos à temperatura de 28ºC. Ganho de peso, biomassa final, conversão alimentar aparente e taxa de crescimento específico foram influenciados pela taxa de alimentação e pela temperatura. A oferta de 3% da biomassa ao dia a 28ºC proporciona melhores índices de crescimento e produtividade para juvenis de robalo-peva.

The objective of this work was to evaluate the effects of temperature and feeding rates on growth and productivity of juvenile fat snook (Centropomus parallelus). A factorial experiment with two temperatures (25 and 28ºC) and two feeding rates (3 and 6% of biomass per day) was used, with three replicates for each combination of temperature and rate. Fish (9.80±0.41 g; 9.86±0.14 cm) were fed twice a day during 60 days. Every 15 days, samples were taken to correct the amount of food offered. No mortality was observed during the experiment. A greater growth in weight and length was obtained in animals subjected to the temperature of 28ºC. Weight gain, final biomass, apparent food conversion, and specific growth rate were influenced by feeding rate and temperature. The offer of 3% of biomass per day at 28ºC provides better growth and productivity indices for juvenile fat snook.

OBJETIVO: analisar, por meio de microscopia eletrônica de varredura, as alterações químicas e estruturais de braquetes metálicos submetidos a um processo de biodegradação in vitro. MÉTODOS: a amostra foi dividida em dois grupos, de acordo com a marca comercial dos acessórios - Grupo A = Dyna-Lock, 3M/Unitek (AISI 303) e Grupo B = LG Edgewise Standard, American Orthodontics (AISI 316L). Os corpos de prova, aparelhos ortodônticos simulados, permaneceram imersos em solução salina (0,05%) por um período de 60 dias, a 37ºC, sob agitação. As alterações decorrentes da exposição dos acessórios à solução salina foram investigadas através da observação com microscópio eletrônico de varredura (MEV) e análise da composição química (EDX), realizadas antes e após o período de imersão (T0 e T5, respectivamente). RESULTADOS: em T5, houve formação de produtos de corrosão sobre a superfície dos braquetes, especialmente no Grupo A, além disso, houve alterações na composição da liga metálica dos braquetes de ambos os grupos, sendo que, no Grupo A, houve redução dos íons ferro e cromo e, no Grupo B, redução de íons cromo. CONCLUSÃO: os acessórios do Grupo A apresentaram-se menos resistentes à biodegradação in vitro, o que poderia estar associado ao tipo de aço utilizado em sua fabricação (AISI 303).

OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to analyze, with the aid of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), the chemical and structural changes in metal brackets subjected to an in vitro biodegradation process. METHODS: The sample was divided into three groups according to brackets commercial brand names, i.e., Group A = Dyna-Lock, 3M/Unitek (AISI 303) and Group B = LG standard edgewise, American Orthodontics (AISI 316L). The specimens were simulated orthodontic appliances, which remained immersed in saline solution (0.05%) for a period of 60 days at 37°C under agitation. The changes resulting from exposure of the brackets to the saline solution were investigated by microscopic observation (SEM) and chemical composition analysis (EDX), performed before and after the immersion period (T0 and T5, respectively). RESULTS: The results showed, at T5, the formation of products of corrosion on the surface of the brackets, especially in Group A. In addition, there were changes in the composition of the bracket alloy in both groups, whereas in group A there was a reduction in iron and chromium ions, and in Group B a reduction in chromium ions. CONCLUSIONS: The brackets in Group A were less resistant to in vitro biodegradation, which might be associated with the type of steel used by the manufacturer (AISI 303).

OBJETIVO: avaliar, in vitro, a biodegradação de aparelhos ortodônticos simulados constituídos de braquetes e fios de aço inoxidável. METODOLOGIA: a amostra foi dividida em 2 grupos, de acordo com a marca dos braquetes usados: grupo A - Dyna-Lock, 3M/Unitek (AISI 303); e grupo B - LG Edgewise Standard, American Orthodontics (AISI 316L). Os corpos-de-prova permaneceram incubados em solução salina (0,05%) a 36ºC, sob agitação por um período de até 60 dias. A análise da liberação iônica foi realizada por meio de espectrofotometria de absorção atômica. O peso em massa dos braquetes também foi medido antes e após o experimento. RESULTADOS: os resultados indicaram que o grupo A apresentou maior liberação de íons ferro, níquel e cromo do que o grupo B. Além disso, os braquetes do grupo A também mostraram perda de massa, considerada outro indicativo de corrosão. CONCLUSÃO: concluiu-se que, nas condições deste experimento, os braquetes do grupo A apresentaram maior biodegradação que os acessórios do grupo B, o que pode estar associado à liga metálica e/ou ao processo de fabricação dos mesmos.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate, in vitro, the biodegradation of simulated orthodontic appliances consisting of stainless steel brackets and wires. MATERIALS AND METHODOS: The sample was divided in 2 groups, according to brackets brand: group A - Dyna-Lock, 3M/ Unitek (AISI 303); and group B - LG Edgewise Standard, American Orthodontics (AISI 316L). The specimens (simulated orthodontic appliances) were incubated in saline solution (0.05%), in shake, at 36ºC, for 60 days. The ion release was detected by atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The weight of brackets was also measured before and after the test. RESULTS: The results indicated that group A released more ions iron, nickel and chromium than group B. Moreover, the brackets in group A also presented weight loss, which is considered an indicator of corrosion. CONCLUSION: It was concluded that, under the present study conditions, the brackets from group A presented a higher biodegradation than group’s B brackets, what could be associated to composition and manufacturing process of these brackets.
